The symphony of cohesion in St Symphorien sur Coize

The initiatives

Identifying the most vulnerables

The first step in the village was to identify the most vulnerable inhabitants, the elders over 70 years old and people isolated. Since March 16th, about 20 elected people and volunteers have been working to call all of them to see the type of support that had to be deployed.

The making of over blouses

On Saturday 11th of April, the association of communities asked for people able to use a sewing machine to contribute to the making of over-blouses to cover the need of the 3 local hospitals, the medical home for elders, the Argentière medical center, retirement homes, at home care services, nurses and liberal doctors. A few days later, on April 16th, more than 1,300 over-blouses have been made, covering the need of the community. A big round of applause for all the people and businesses that contributed with materials and/or time!

A touch of music

Rémi, a 78 years old accordionist, has been playing in local gatherings and in retirement homes for many years. From home, he calls everyday his fellow citizens, without a computer or internet, juste using his phone making it much easier especially for the older generation. I had the chance to receive a call from him confided Etienne : He does not just say hello and plays a few notes, he plays an entire song and takes time for conversation. On Monday 20th of April, Rémi had already made 120 calls! Here is something that will warm your heart.

What would you like to see changed for the climate after the crisis?

The wish I want to make for after this crisis is that this wave of solidarity and caring lives on and that we get thinking collectively of the “living together” at the local and global level because this proves that we are actors of our lives and of the changes there is to make.

Jérôme Banino, mayor of St-Symphorien-sur-Coize

“I want that we replicate the mobilisation we implemented to face COVID-19 to the energy transition emergency. In particular, at the municipal level, that the energy transition becomes a transversal subject that every elected people appropriates, versus the current situation where only the delegate in the association of communities and the deputy mayor for construction work, and sometimes the mayor are involved. In addition, I would like for the energy cooperative Monts Énergies broadens its circle of investors to all the citizens, who recently became aware of the climate emergency through the sanitary crisis.”

Etienne Pupier, Conseiller municipal
