SUSRUD project
Context
SUSRUD aims to address challenges through the use of biomass energy. Biomass energy derived from local agricultural residues will reduce energy costs, provide another source of income for farmers, and enhance their energy independence while promoting sustainable waste management practices. Additionally, it will contribute to environmental sustainability and support local economies in rural Europe. SUSRUD aims to build capacity in biomass energy and sustainable farming, supporting economic stability and improving efficiency in agriculture. This effort will modernize farming practices, address technical gaps, and promote sustainable methods, all while driving rural areas’ development. SUSRUD is aiming to create a stronger, more resilient future by enhancing local capabilities and contributing to sustainable growth in rural areas.
Objectives
The project carries five specific objectives to achieve: Following are;
To reduce energy costs in agriculture (Reduction in energy costs for participating farmers).
To enhance knowledge and skills in biomass energy uses (Train at least 200 farmers and 40 VET educators): By equipping both farmers and educators with the skills needed to implement and manage biomass energy systems, fostering innovation in agricultural education and practice, aligning with the priority of advancing innovative approaches in VET.
To develop and distribute a comprehensive guidebook providing practical information on establishing and maintaining biomass energy facilities for farmers in rural areas: the practical information on biomass energy facilities will contribute to accessible and tailored educational resources dedicated to farmers. The guidebook enhances the flexibility of VET opportunities by providing a self-paced learning tool that can be used independently or integrated into existing training programs.
To conduct a workshop for 16 farmers, including a field visit to a successful biomass energy facility, to provide practical insights and demonstrate good practices: by providing practical, hands-on learning experiences that enhance understanding and foster community engagement, this approach not only contributes to innovation in VET (through experiential learning) but also supports environmental goals by demonstrating sustainable practices in a real-world context.
To produce 12 podcasts and video series featuring success stories and good practices from partner countries to inspire farmers to adopt biomass energy. (Min. 4,000 views): Featuring success stories and good practices provides flexible, on-demand learning opportunities that can reach a wide audience. By setting a target of at least “4,000 views”, the project leverages digital media to extend its educational impact beyond traditional classroom settings, offering farmers and educators an innovative way to learn from real-life experiences and good practices from partner countries.
